It is helpful to have as much information as possible about substance use disorders and the best ways to treat them. And it is also very important to find out about how to help yourself during this process.
- PEER SUPPORT GROUPS
Al-Anon
A mutual support program for people affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing experiences and using the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive change to their lives, whether or not the alcoholic seeks help.
Alateen
Part of Al-Anon, this fellowship is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. Teens with similar situations meet and are invited to share their experiences with each other. They can also chat live in any of the scheduled meetings.
Nar-Anon Family Groups
The program is a spiritual approach based on the 12-Steps of Nar-Anon. Understanding that you are powerless over other people's use of drugs, you can still do something positive for yourself - then you can be of help to others. A meeting locator is available by zip code.
SMART Recovery Family & Friends
Provides easy-to-learn tools to support your loved one without supporting the addictive behavior. Under Find a Meeting you can locate both in-person and online meetings in your area.
