Binge drinking in teens changes gut bacteria, even before addiction develops

Good bacteria helps keep your body and emotions in balance - and even reduces craving. Foods and supplements (like prebiotics and probiotics) may be a new tool to counter the effect of alcohol on teens.

Heavy drinking in high school increases within two years of first drink

This may set the pattern for heavy drinking by the time teens get to college or become young adults. Help may need to start in the early teen years.

A Barrier to Medication Treatment for Opioid Addiction Is Removed

It is now easier for people with an opioid use disorder to get treatment with buprenorphine from a qualified health practitioner. Buprenorphine was the first approved narcotic drug for addiction that could be prescribed by doctors in their offices. It reduces cravings and may only needed to be taken every other day.
