The Affordable Care Act (ACA)
The ACA makes health insurance more affordable and has special insurance protections for people living with mental health issues or substance use disorders.
Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008
This requires that insurance groups who cover mental health or substance use disorders offer the same benefits for those as they do for general medical coverage. This includes deductibles, copays, out-of-pocket maximums, and treatment limitations.
