Recovery stopped me in my tracks in the beginning because of 2 ideas I had formed in my head (based on no fact or information) ....
1) Recovery should be easy, quick and obvious. I'll soon be my old ME but won't hurt. 2) Recovery should NOT be painful. I had suffered enough pain (I thought) because life had been so unfair. Recovery is actually just about the opposite to literally every word in my 2 mistaken wishes. (If it isn't I'm not being thorough in my program) That is why a sponsor and the oldtimers are so important. When I was ready to give up they would tell me "you are right where you should be" Don't drink and keep going to the meetings no matter what you think. IT GETS BETTER !! All the best. Papa Bear:
Ditto! Recovery takes work, and that work bears much good fruit. A common trap I have seen in AA and NA meetings are people who show up to meetings and master the first 3 steps (we call this the 3 step waltz). They keeping repeating steps 1, 2, and 3 without moving on to the crucial 4 and 5. Working all of the steps is a key (in my opinion). I appreciate your input on this Board. -Fly. |
