The universal language. MUSIC..To me it is One of God's greatest gifts... I love music and there have been many times when music have brought me comfort and helped me.,it has strengthened me and inspired me .. Many times I identify with the song ,music is a VERY important part of my life so for those of you who like music as much as I do I will use this thread to post songs related to alcoholism and recovery... some can be used to look for the similarities, others can be used to give HOPE.. either way I hope my love of music will touch someone and inspire them to seek recovery and help those who are. God bless. Today's song I have chosen is You don't have to hide

Thank you Lord for your blessings on me.
In recovery I learned how to be grateful. It is impossible to be in self pity when you count your blessings...

song No one drinks alone.

Drinking alone in the evenings, afternoons and then eventually mornings became the norm for me with pulled blinds and locked doors. now I look back and see how insane that was. I don't drink anymore, today my door is not locked and I answer the telephone when it rings and my blinds are open to let the light shine in......I have freedom ....you can too.

Light at the end of the darkness.....

I have been in the darkness so I appreciate songs like these because I know there is indeed a light at the end of it. Never never give up HOPE and never give up believing in yourself and what you can accomplish...

Song. I'm moving on..

I have faced all my demons , for those of you are who are afraid to face your demons and think you don't have the courage to do it just remember that having courage does not mean there is no fear. having courage means having fears but facing them anyways.... I am grateful I found the courage to move on from my addiction .If I can do it so can you!

Wine into water....

.Today I am blessed to have 33 months of sobriety and my sponsee( Island ) has 4 months of sobriety today.. My friend Laurie is not with us anymore.. In July it will be 3 years since alcoholism took her away.... I sat with her parents two weeks after her funeral and listened to this song with them... if you think you are hurting no one but yourself with your drinking you are very wrong.. that is one of the truths I have learned about myself in recovery... I hurt many.... Today I am grateful that I was given a second chance ..........Thank God for his Grace; I thank and praise God that for me he has turned the wine back into water..He will for you too if you seek him....

I'm the road to recovery...
I hope today some of you... even one of you... can say this is your song..If not it can be...
Recovery is a journey not a destination but it's a ride worth taking and one of the perks is that you never get lost!

The Healing has begun:

We cannot heal until we admit to the problem and get help... when we do then the healing begins... You are worth the healing,no matter how far down the scale you have come you can always get back up and LIVE.

Help me help you.

So many times people tried to help me, so many times I swore I would quit, so many times I lied...So many times I turned away. Can you relate to this song? If so I want you to know that there is HOPE.Don't turn away, listen to the voice inside you that is telling you to get help. Listen to the people who are willing to do so.

Better than I used to be.

In the program of AA we learn that it is progress not perfection...we don't have to be perfect we just have to try to be our best..... I am far from perfect but I am sober and I am better than I used to be.

Faith when I fall.

I am here today ,alive and sober because of the people who had faith in me and who gave me love and HOPE..I have been to the bottom and I have been to hell , if that is where you are please believe me when I tell you there is a way out... just have a little faith

One small miracle.

miracles do happen... many times I listened to this song wondering when my miracle would happen..A miracle doesn't have to be something perfect it's what you think is impossible becomes possible.... I am sober,I never thought that was possible but here I am...... THAT IS A MIRACLE..

You never let go....

In recovery there are days that have been very difficult and the easy thing would be to let go but if we ride out the storm with the help and support of others we get our strength to keep going on the recovery road .and when the dark times pass we can praise and thank God for the help we have received ..I thank God for all the people who have been and are my light in the darkness .. because of you I never let go

Walk a little straighter daddy.

I Posted this song for all the father's who are still suffering from alcoholism.. hopefully it will inspire you to reach out for help...For those of you have lived with an alcoholic parent such as my children have done than you know the heartache.. children need to be able to look up to a parent, one that is there in mind as well as body ,one that doesn't reek of booze, one that can walk straight. A childhood memory should not be remembering the clinging of ice cubes in a glass, the reek of booze on a parent's breath and the embarrassing moments of seeing a parent stumbling and fall in front of their peers. As a recovering alcoholic mother I want you to know that I am not preaching I am sharing my Experience. How I wish I had walked a little straighter....All children deserve a mom and dad who can walk straight.

In Better hands

Life for me is SO much different today than it was back in my drinking days.Back then I was owned by the demon alcohol..TODAY I answer my telephone when it rings I open my door when someone is knocking, I can drive anywhere at a moments notice....I don't have to hide, tell lies or plot my next drink. Today I am free from those chains. I am free because I surrendered and accepted the hands that reached out to me when I did.......I am indeed in better hands

Carry your candle:

Carrying my burdens became too heavy for me. I was dying beneath the weight of it all... I reached out to God , I surrendered, I became willing I became teachable, today I carry my candle. I do it here on this board and I do it in my life to bring HOPE to those who feel hopeless, to give help to those who feel helpless ,to give strength to those who feel weak. I carry my candle to let you know that you can pass from the darkness into light..Take your candle today and light it...

Bring the rain

In this life there will be hardships, trials and pain... that is part of life here on earth.. WE can get through those difficult times with our God and from some of my most painful moments, my most painful days I learned the most and grew the most and when I was closest to God. If I hadn't had those experiences I would not have the insight and the gratitude I have today. I thank God and praise God for leading me here.I take nothing for granted and for every flower that opens for the early morning light, to the rising of the sun and all in between until the setting of the sun in the evening I am grateful..
