Residential Treatment Centers Introduction

Updated August 24, 2018

Residential treatment centers offer comprehensive treatment services in a structured treatment environment.  They may begin with the withdrawal/detoxification process and extend through aftercare planning after treatment is completed.

Services often include both individual and group counseling, 12-step recovery programs, nutritional counseling, stress reduction, holistic approaches such as yoga, acupuncture and neurofeedback, structured physical activities, vocational training, relapse prevention support, social skills training, and educational services.

While residential treatment can be a fairly costly form of treatment, some facilities are affordably priced. These include Better Way of Miami, Cri-Help, Odyssey House, Phoenix House, and Samaritan.   Depending upon your insurance coverage, many of the centers in the mid and high range may become affordable. You can contact the customer service department at your insurance company and check your covered benefits. In-network benefits can be as high as 80 - 100%, while out of network benefits are often 50%.

Another way to find low cost treatment is through the Find Treatment section of our web site. Select US Treatment Locators for information on how to find inpatient and outpatient treatment and instructions on using those resources. Two of particular help to those with financial issues are:
SAMHSA: Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator (findtreatment.samhsa.gov) and
Addict Help
(addict-help.com).

It is important that facilities are licensed by the state in which they are located and accredited by a health care accrediting body such as The Joint Commission (jointcommission.org) or CARF (carf.org).
