Frustrated

I have been a consistent smoker for about 10 years now, and I think about quitting every single day. It has consumed me. I do most things while anticipating when I'll have my next cigarette. I find that I mostly smoke in order to relax, and also out of habit and boredom. I am currently not working which resulted from anxiety and a need to feel better about life all around.. My job was strenuous in many ways. I was dealing with alcohol and gambling on a day to day basis at work. As an addict, I know these things are not the most healhy thing to be around every day at work. So I made a rash decision, quit my job and now here I am trying to put the pieces back together. I try to quit every day it seems, but something always comes up that I feel I cannot deal with without a cigarette. Even having my first cup of coffee every morning, reminds me of that nagging addiction that I just can't seem to fix. I know all the reasons i should quit, although today I spent my last ten dollars on a pack of cigarettes. Knowing I have no income coming in but my addiction overcame me and I felt like if I could just smoke cigarettes for one more day, maybe tomorrow will be easier. I just can't seem to overcome this. Any suggestions as to what may help? I know I need to find a more healthy way to relax and overcome stress but it seems like no matter what I try, I always run back to smoking. It's such an ingrained habit that I just don't know how to live without it. I know all the reasons I need to quit, but when it comes down to that craving, i always seem to cave. I'm frustrated and I don't know how to remember at the beginning of the day, all those things I think about at night and that keep me from sleeping, aka my addiction to smoking and having an addictive personality as well. any advice would be appreciated,

Hi Alder. I have a year without smoking now.. 13 months to be exact.I never ever thought I would be able to quit but it was when I was diagnoised with early stage of lung disease that I got the courage and the strength to give it up.. I was told that if I continued to smoke I would get emphysema and possibly lung cancer but if I quit my disease would not get any worse and may even improve.. that was enough for me.. I do not want to out of this world choking because of something as stupid as a cig...so I made up my mind and when I did I faced it and dealt with...After 96 hours nicotine will be out of your system. any cravings after that is psychological not physical. the height of withdrawal is at around 70-72 hours.. was it difficult to do? YES but after I got through that first week it was much easier to handle... there are a lot of benefits from not smoking.. I am not chained to the smoke. or having to go outside in the cold to smoke, I save money,, enough to go on a trip... Change your thoughts.. instead of telling yourself you want a smoke , tell yourself that you don't need to smoke and do things to keep your mind active ... you can do this.. so many others have and went on to live smoke free, healthy lives.. some haven't and have died a horrible death or is alive but walking around with oxygen and tubes in their noses.. nothing good can come from smoking... you can break free.
