Hi everyone. I am a recovering drug addict. Was in and out of addiction for about 5 years. This is my third time in recovery and today is my 90 days clean. I have been smoking cigarettes for about 4 years. I smoke a pack a day sometimes more. I have noticed I smoke a lot more now that I am clean. Whenever I'm driving I have to have a cigarette. I chain smoke until I begin to feel sick. I noticed I did the same things my previous times in recovery, that I smoked a lot more during early recovery. Can anybody else relate? Is this just my addictive ways coming out of me through smoking? I would like some input please! I am working my recovery and changing my ways but I'm afraid that my cigarette smoking is my old addictive ways trying to control my life yet again.

hi, i know exactly what you mean , i am 30+ days clean from opiate's and 9 years off alcohol - im an addict- i used to smoke 1 1/2 packs a day- since i have got off the pills i am smoking 2 1/2 - 3 packs a day- it doesent bother me- i would rarher be smoking than taking pills- sure it is part of my addictive personality, i do everything to extreme - i am aware of that, the ciggarettes are the lesser of two or three or four evils - so i live with it - my Doc asks me about every six months do i want to try and quit- she knows damn fine i have no intention of quiting- i wake up in the middle of the nite- i smoke- its not healthy but with the amount of crap i have put in my system for 30 years i aint going to be getting too old anyway, its my crutch my drugs of choice now nicotine and caffeine will do me !!!!! enjoy

Yeah I know that's what I say, better to be smoking cigarettes than snorting heroin. And I've heard other people say they smoke a lot more now that they're clean. I want to quit eventually but I have to put my focus into staying clean from drugs I don't want to overwhelm myself. Just making sure I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Thanks!! And happy Thanksgiving!

Jess, are you attending NA meetings in your area?

All the best.

Yes I am attending 3 NA's a week and church every Sunday. I found an NA in my area Wednesday and Friday nights that I love. That was my mistake before, I stopped going to meetings, so now I know what needs to be done to stay clean. I also have the NA literature and just for today book.

You can make use of NTR products after consulting a doctor. May of the products are avail in the market. Keep engaged with something and dont think about cigs. Do some physical workouts like running, walking etc to make your body and brain as brisk.

Yes!!! Completely relate..I think the initial part of getting clean, smoking more because of stress..I went from just under pack a day then once clean two packs. I'm closer back to one pack now. One thing is I HATE walking and smoking...so i find more walks I take, less I smoke. More I sit on my a** or talk on phone MORE I smoke..I recently tried timing myself. Not much good advice as I am now a chainsmoker
But more I try to stay motivated/active LESS I smoke. Even typing this for example, if I was outside I would have a cigarette in one hand and be typing with other. But I'm inside where I can't smoke so focusing on this only. It's f***ing hard though definitely. Congrats on your 90 days.

Smoking consumption is very common among people and I've seen many people struggles to quit this habit. Man you need to become very strong about smoking a cigar. By making your mindset strong you'll be able to defeat smoking.

Smoking consumption is very common nowadays ! But taking in excess can be harmful for your body. If you really want to quit this habit then you need to make a strong mind set.
