I've heard this so many times that slow taper is 'correct way to go' maybe it is best for some people
But not everyone. For me personally slow taper was no appetite INSTANT bad depression..What all else I don't remember. I wasn't getting down much and
I paused. Fast forward to when i jumped off. Would I recommend that? Hell no. But it was the way I made it. For me: I did not have urge to get high for over a year after. Depression did not hit until a year after. So that first crucial year everyone talks about...Well it was..it DEFINITELY was. But not in those two aspects. Why am i writing this? f*** I dont really know...I'll add later if i remember my point if i had one..

Yeah b..that's what I was worried about was the physical..but really was the mental piece that was worse and that's one reason a taper is better. Feeling depressed and anxiety is better over being bat s*** crazy..completely out of touch with reality.
But least was an experience and got past. Looking back as far as the taper attempt I should have gotten some meds..maybe i would have made it first time around...more ease. Btw i keep forgetting you are in process going down still or?

Hey mary, how long have you been clean? how are you doing now? I think people that taper { if done long and slow} do have a slightly better experience..
Ive never been able to taper myself and thus have paid a dear price for the CT route..

I have jumped at 30ml. and I have tapered from 30 ml. Going CT was horrible for me. I didn't have any meds to help with withdrawals and at that time wasn't on anti depressants or mood stabilizer. I suffered no sleep, anxiety, no energy, and depression through the roof. I went back on methadone after suffering over a month. My taper from 30 ml.was way easier. I talked to my doctor to get meds to help. I was taking anti depressants and mood stabilizer so my depression was being treated. I also smoked marijuana. I suffered no withdrawals when I tapered to zero. It was a smooth transition.

I stopped at 30 mills, i was planning just to keep going to nil but then my ravings kicked in and i was really struggling for few days, picking up my phone to call and score then giving up n that idea , intentionally going to places where i would meet other addicts but turning around just before getting there and so on ... for now i am on 30 with no plans to reduce further till i feel its ok. I reckon my tapering is going to be slowest tapering ever .. i am not in competition.

I too stayed at 30 ml. for years because I wasn't ready to taper. I didn't have cravings though Bonnie5. That would concern me. I haven't had cravings for over ten years and not once while tapering . For me I felt comfortable getting off methadone because of that. There's no reason to put yourself in harm's way if your still craving. A long (years) taper is best IMO but even that sometimes isn't the answer. Sometimes you need to stabilize and get healthy. I am glad to hear Bonnie5 that you are okay. You stayed away from using and are taking care of yourself. That's awesome.

Wilson- was three years this past December off methadone. How am i now? Ok. It's been an up and down roller coaster especially with mood swings and trying not to let little things become huge things. Yes I couldn't finish slow taper either. Maybe had I done things differently idk. -overfifty glad you are doing well. Yeah weed helped me taper- but not jumping off quickly..I think made worse so quit smoking then. Bonnie exactly..no race do what your body/mind says comfortable/tolerable..but you know that. Btw cant find pic of your cat. Lol
