I came to recovery in July 1989 a suicidal hopeless/helpless alcoholic/addict.

Through commitment to The 12 Steps of AA/NA
http://www.aa.org/assets/en_US/p-10..._howitworks.pdf
I have been able to achieve 25 yrs clean/sober and the quality of my life continues to improve as I go along in recovery.

Recovery takes work and dedication but my life continues to improve in ways I never imagined.

I wish everyone the best in their recovery.

@PapaBear, I have been in recovery for 34 years for alcohol. With that being said, I find it mind boggling that our only child is an addict. You would think I would know what to do for our son but we have no idea, none. we are trying our best to love him, but when he refuses any and all contact with us, and we have no idea where he is (in our town but homeless). We are not enablers as we stopped giving any money some time ago. I pray without ceasing. What we haven't done is connect with alanon, and we need to.

Without AA & NA I wouldn't have seen 1990 !

All the best.

Here we are... another July 18 !! 27 yrs sober/clean.

I remember thinking in the beginning :
"This won't work!!" and "What do The 12 Steps have to do with anything??"

As I go along in recovery the more I discover just how accurate and simple AA's HOW IT WORKS and NA's HOW IT WORKS is

Congratulations on 27 years. You are right. No matter what a person wants to succeed at they have to go through the steps. Dedicate the time. Some have big steps and some have small.

I hope some day my son can count the years of being sober or clean. I do think the first years must be difficult. I do not think my son is working the steps, but he has been introduced to them and knows where to find them.

Wishing you another 27 happier years if that is possible!

Thank you for sharing. I have 25 days today so your title just grabbed me. I can't imagine 25 years sober but thanks to you I know it's possible.

Rock on.
