I am struggling and could use any and all help and support!
My Name is Peter. I am 28 and am a marijuana addict.
I've decided (yet again) this morning that today is the day and I will quit smoking. I have tried several times throughout the last 5 years to quit and still cannot. I try, and then launch into an enormous weed bender. The biggest challenge for me is espousing all of the notions that marijuana is not harmful, non-addictive, and is a tool for mind expansion.
Maybe in the short term, yes, but after 12 years of use it is clearly taking its toll. I live in a small town in VT and have surrounded myself with friends who smoke and don't have any outlet other than NA. NA here is all heroin junkies. Yes, I know I can learn from them, but in my eyes it is not the same fight that we are struggling through. My problem, while less benign and dangerous, is still destroying my life though.
I could use any and all encouragements to do this. I know Day 1 is the hardest and Day 2 isn't much easier. Thank you for letting me share.

The 12 Steps of NA will help you recover.
If you were in school and the teacher was at the front of the class presenting the lesson of the day would it make any difference who else was in the class? ..not really.
One of the biggest mistakes an addict/alcoholic makes,especially in early recovery, is thinking that somehow they are different than other alcoholics/addicts.
All the 12 Step recovery programs us the same 12 Steps.
Once you have a period of time in recovery you will see that - but you have to put the time in.
Try to "identify" at the meetings .. not "compare". Get a good sponsor to help you.
All of us share the same "defects & shortcomings" as you. I know how you feel and think.
Keep attending your meetings. Soon you will feel right at home.
All the best.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

NA's HOW IT WORKS:
--- driven by a hundred forms of fear, self-delusion, self-seeking, and self-pity.
---there are those too who suffer from grave emotional and mental disorders but many of them do recover if they have the capacity to be honest.
... I need AA more than it needs me.
--- I fight recovery tooth and nail....
I'm not used to being sane, it just doesn't seem natural.
...... According to the great spiritual teachers, ignorance does not result from what we don’t know; ignorance results from what we think we do know.
---Some think that 2+2=5 and believe it.
Some know that 2+2=4 and can't stand it.
--- I didn't have a very happy childhood
but I sure am having a long one !
---Dry since 1989
working daily on getting/staying SOBER.
---If you want to drink, that's your business
...If you want to quit, that's AA's business.
... Tell me, I'll forget;
... Show me, I'll remember;
... Engage me, I'll understand.
---Most problems are psychological.
Most solutions are spiritual .
