I have heard this over and over "They (the addict) have to hit rock bottom before they will go for help or a loved one can help them."

But I was curious to know what a addict's rock bottom is and what if the rock bottom seems to be death, I am just looking for someone to shed the light on this Rock Bottom Statement? I posted this on another board in response to a post..

My heart aches for you and all the others that are in this ordeal.. And I am not trying to be negative here just wanting answers myself to this crazy situation.. But what excatly is rock bottom????? I have not a clue what that is.. I know I see my sister at rock bottom now and nothing is making her try to clean herself up... She has no help from family members, she is homeless, she has no transportation, no medical insurance, no phone, no nothing and has been that way for 2 + years now... She lives on the street oh I forgot she does have a pimp that works her out on the streets and helps her get her next high as long as she works these truck stops and he will continue to do that until she is dead and can make him any income.. So where is the rock bottom in that other than Death??? I am not angry at anyone on this board about this so I hope this is not coming across bad to anyone it is not my intentions at all.. I just keep hearing that they have to hit rock bottom and in some cases rock bottom is the end, death and I don't want her to hit that at all. I want to get her out of this and before that time.. Can anyone give me an answer to this rock bottom statement and let me know if they really have to hit rock bottom before they can be helped cause in this case I feel that it will be death in her case. And that is too late for help.. I hope this is not taken out of context and I hope that some one can give me an answer to this...

Kristi

Boggsy,

We moved your post to the Pain Pills forum. It is the most active forum, and posters there can share their experiences with "rock bottom." The Success Stories forum does not allow people to respond to posts.

Firstly,welcome to ARG!

Ive never been to rehab(been to detox though)but when i went for the 3 day family session with my son at a very prestigious rehab,we were told that a person does not have to hit rock bottom before they can seek help and get clean.I"m sure many here may disagree,but...that is what i was taught. And to be honest,im not so sure i was at rock bottom myself personally.

I wasnt happy with my life,my supply was getting cut off,i was having a little difficulty with my marriage, but things could have gotten soooooooooooooo much worse,so i wasnt anywhere near "rock bottom" and im pp free for just over one year.

In my opinion, everyones rock bottom is different,it may be a big event,it may be a small event. Its just a state of mind that someone reaches where they decide thay have just had enough, and start to seek sources for help. There really is no "one" answer for all.

Kristi,i sure can feel your pain for your sister,im in a similar situation, and its a hopeless feeling becasue no matter what we do or say,we just cant "make" anyone seek help if they themselves arent ready.Some...just never are ready and yes, death is the ending. So sad when there are so many resources out there to help people these days.

Thanks for your question,im sure you will get lots of responses and all of them will be very helpful.~KIM

Everyone has their own rock bottom. For some it's laying in a bed unable to get up because they are too wasted. For others, it's laying in a bed unable to get up because they are dead.

I agree with Danny, everyone's rock bottom is different. If you think yours is death, then I beg to differ. No one is a throw away, everyone can seek help. Some don't have the capacity to ever get honest enough to follow through but luckily, they are few and far between.

Read a few more posts here, see what people are doing to get and stay clean. I only know what worked for me and I had hit my bottom and had to be willing to do whatever it took.

Kaleigh,
I'd start my own post and write it out, its slow now, but you'll see responses from people that have been there, done that, and are happy, healthy, productive people. Start a post tho, and keep posting.
Good luck to you,
Briar
