Christmas And Us

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I posted on here but as it's coming up to Christmas and the 'silly season' I just wanted to ask how folks are doing at a particularly challenging time of the year for us alcoholics.

I know that Christmas was the time when I had my worst rock bottoms because it's the time of year when everyone has a carte blanche to eat, drink and be merry. The merry part always escaped me, however. I was either paralytic, passed out or creating havoc at home. Sound familiar?

For those of you in early recovery, keep taking it a day at a time. Christmas is just another day after all and 'this too shall pass.' Get to meetings, talk to your sponsor, whatever it takes to stay physically, emotionally and spiritually fit. The miracle of AA for me is that I no longer crave a drink so I no longer have to white knuckle it over Christmas. I can actually enjoy it with the added bonus of waking up every morning knowing exactly what I did the night before. No more self loathing, shame, disgust, remorse and regret. That's the best Christmas present of all. Freedom.

Keep well everyone and wishing you all a peaceful and sober Christmas,
