is a network of drug free, democratically run and self-supporting
houses or apartment complexes. It was established in 1975 to
serve as the next step in the process of alcohol and drug recovery,
focusing on sober community living as an effective and low
cost method of preventing relapse. The web site provides an
online state directory of all facilities, over 800 in the U.S.
today.

Located in Boskruin, Gauteng, South Africa, this sober living home provides a safe communal living environment for those recovering from an addiction. Weekly house meetings are held and residents are encouraged to attend self-help groups in the area including AA, NA, OA, GA, CA, and others. Located in Chaska, MN Sunshine House is a structured sober living environment for men, while Liberty house is for women. Residents must attend 12-step meetings and work with a 12-step sponsor.
Empire House
A women's sober house in Plymouth, MN focusing on community support and the 12-step program while residents work, volunteer, or continue their education. A minimum 90-day stay is required, as well as sobriety for at least 30 days.

Located in Michigan (Southgate and Canton/Westland area), these two recovery homes for women in 12-step programs offer a supportive family environment with a focus on life skills and relapse prevention. There is a $100 deposit required and a rental fee of $125 a week. Financial assistance may be available.
Minnesota Association of Sober Homes
The Minnesota Association of Sober Homes is the only established organization of sober home owners in the state of Minnesota. Member houses have been inspected and certified to uphold health, safety and house management standards.

The

The Retreat operates three long-term residences in St Paul, MN that serve as
transitional, self-governing sober living facilities for men and women. The Retreat
Residences give individuals the opportunity to put into practice the principles
of recovery embodied in the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and to become
fully immersed in the recovery community. Men and women are housed separately
and work closely with sponsors to create a safe and supportive environment, establishing
a solid foundation for recovery. Each resident commits to living at The Retreat
Residence for a minimum of six months. The fee is $450 per month.

Located in Salisbury, Maryland, this facility for women over 18 serves those with both an addictive disorder and a mental health diagnosis. The program provides group and individual mental health/addiction treatment up to three times a week and teaches life skills training in the context of the 12-step philosophy.
Eden Hill Recovery Retreat (edenhillrecoveryretreat.com)
Located in northwestern Connecticut, this transitional living program for women in recovery is a twelve-step based structured aftercare program with individual counseling and attention to total mind-body health. The program is focused on helping each individual develop a life plan that will facilitate re-integration into their home community. There is a 30-day minimum length of stay. The monthly fee is $4500 for a double room and $6000 for a single. This fee includes meals, individual psychotherapy once a week and psychotherapeutic groups three times a week, exercise facilities on the premises, membership at a local fitness facility, and a weekly meditation class. All residents are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and participate in maintaining the living space.

Fresh Start Recovery Coalition provides structured sober living, counseling,
medical and career services for recovering substance abusers, individuals with
mental disabilities, homeless individuals, those transitioning from incarceration
back into society and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. It is based on a "family
of choice" concept that promotes family responsibility, personal integrity
and accountability. Fresh Start currently has six homes located in Malden, Everett
and Lynn Massachusetts. Separate homes are available for men and women.

County, NY the program uses a holistic approach to support, motivate and encourage

to hold a job, re-enter the community, find and secure housing, and work on their
personal and emotional issues. By providing a sober, safe and clean supportive
and healing environment, the program is committed to enhancing the healing process

Haley House is a 14-bed transitional living home located in Blairstown, NJ. It offers a self-pay, 12 step-based program for women 18 years and older in recovery who make a 3 month minimum commitment. The program is designed to help residents transition smoothly to a full and sober life.

NET runs five sober homes in Malden, Everett, and Dorechester, Mass (3 for women and 2 for men). It provides a sober supportive environment of peers with an emphasis on physical and emotional safety, self-reliance and personal accountability along with respect for oneself and others. Cost is $145 a week plus an initial processing fee of $200.00.

A men's clean and sober community located in Staten Island, NY for working men who have completed in-patient treatment and are in early recovery. Prospective members should be willing to make a minimum three-month commitment, attend self-help meetings and out-patient aftercare, and accept a reasonable curfew and a Zero-Tolerance Policy toward drug and alcohol use. Because St. George's House receives no government funding, there is no time limit on residency.
Turning

Located on the outskirts of New Haven, Connecticut, the Turning Point Foundation provides private, upscale housing alternatives
for people with substance abuse issues. They offer two separate sober living
programs: a three-month Residential Program for males ages 16 and over and a
traditional sober house for recovering adult male alcoholics and addicts.
These houses are staffed with live-in staff members who are present 24 hours
a day. All staff members are recovering addicts and alumni of therapeutic
living environments. In addition to providing a safe and structured
environment, Turning Point offers an array of services to help the
recovering addict repair his life.

In Graduate Housing residents live in a single family home with one person per room and mentor a newly recovering person. The program is based on the 12 Step program and focuses on both the physical and spiritual aspects of addiction and recovery.

This structured sober housing in Asheville and Weaverville, North Carolina for adult males and females offers stays anywhere from 3 to 12 months, although at least 6 months is recommended to support the recovery process. A licensed staff counselor is available onsite Monday through Friday and mandatory relapse prevention group meetings are held twice weekly. Located in Palm Beach County, Florida this sober living home for women provides a safe and supportive environment for recovery. Provides culturally diverse transitional sober housing for people recovering from substance abuse and dual diagnosed individuals. The program offers a safe, structured environment that incorporates a program to help residents recover and regain necessary life skills. Currently there is a 60 bed facility for men only. They are in the process of converting a 100 year old church into a 150 bed facility for women.
