Hi all, I am new to the forum. I know that this drug can trigger schizophrenia, even though many think it's harmless. My son is a victim. Cannabis activists (make it legal) are well within their rights to campaign for the legalisation of the drug. However, most of them just don't have any experience of the long lasting detrimental effects of it on especially young men. And really, it's the luck of the draw. Nobody knows if they will be it. My son has been half his life trying to navigate the dangerous waters of recovery and at the same time salvaging his social skills. My heart breaks.

Marijuana doesn't cause schizophrenia. Daily alcohol useage would be harmful to the psyche. What weed does is make you ignore your problems/responsibilities which compound over time, the weight of which can make you want to smoke even more weed. There might be a reason why he feels like he needs weed (social problems, anxiety, depression), maybe try to help him with this instead of guilting him.

Justin, Are you kidding? Have some sympathy for this mother. You don't know anymore than the rest of us how this drug affects the brain. What if someone had something lurking in their brain to start with and never knew about it. Then one day he starts smoking the wacky weed and it causes what may have lay dormant forever to suddenly turn into a mental illness. Who can say this doesn't happen. Look at not long ago it was discovered taking Tylenol and drinking alcohol caused liver damage. How long did it take for us to find this out? I believe your son got his mental illness smoking pot or cannabis because I have a friend who has smoked this forever and she has turned into a nervous wreck and has paranoia. I've got I don't even like being around her anymore. She has went from being a fun loving person to someone who is sad all the time now. Im so sorry your son has developed schizophrenia. I hope he has a good doctor who can help him and control it with medicine. All the best.

I have read that marijuana can trigger schizophrenia in some people. That is why all legal and illegal drugs are dangerous. it could be laced with anything that you don't know about that can cause hallucinations. Find a Classical Homeopath for your son. There are homeopathic remedies that can help. it will take a long time, a few years, but the right remedy will show improvements in a few months, stick to it for a few years to continue improvements. it is a manageable treatment, appointments should be once every 2-4 months. A naturopathic ND may have experience in homeopathy or specialize. Can also suggest supplements to help. but don't get carried away w the supplements, they can be costly.

Sadly we have quite a few 'Justins' in our country too. They often turn out to be one of two types; addicted themselves and angry because thier use criminalises them or they make money selling it.
