Subutex/suboxone Withdrawal

I haven't been active here in a LONG time, but I feel the need to post my story about this drug.

I was up to 40 Norco's a day, and went to an addiction specialist 2 years ago and was put on Subutex. Never switched to Suboxone. I was maintained on 2mg. a day. I am very active in AA. My group choice, and I suggest you go where you are comfortable. I felt lifeless and was told I was lifeless on this drug. Each time I discussed quitting, my doc wanted me to "wait", until spring and the birds were out, until my son left for college, until... until... until...

I quit cold turkey 2 months ago, and it is nothing short of a very difficult detox. You NEED to prepare for this if you have been maintained on this medication for a long time! Three days? NO way. Try 30 days minimum. We all have lives, and I will share how I did it.

I did not sleep for 14 days, no lie. What kept me sane was reading Todd Zalkins book "Dying for Triplicate". He did not sleep for 44 days. After nearly going insane I got ahold of some hydro and began to use that for 2 weeks only for w/d, being very honest and accountable to family and friends/sponsor. After 2 weeks I switched to Kratom tea, taking 2.5 g. in the morning and 2.5 g in the evening, and reducing that dose over 1 week to nothing. Knowing what I know now I believe I could have used the kratom tea and not hydro at all. The Kratom plant is used in Asia in their rehab, but I could never see it being used here or all the pharmaceutical companies would be out of business.

I love my energy back. I gained about 10 lbs. and could care less at this point. Eat comfort food if you desire, it will come off later. Get your health back!

Questions? Message me.

Mimi

Why did you cold turkey off of the sub? If you were only on 2mgs, why didn't you take your time weaning off of the 2 mgs? I can understand you wanting to be done with it and good for you but it's not something I would suggest to people on a message board. Weaning off sub should be done under a drs care. And using hydro to help with withdrawals is irresponsible..most if not all people would just relapse. You had help and accountablity and that's great but not many have that option. Do not use narcotics to get off of another narcotic.

How long were you on Sub?

Reallly happy for you that this worked for you and I hope that you are continuing with meetings and support face to face.
