Does The Heart Ever Heal After Crack And Heroin?

My boyfriend is an ex crack and heroin addict (he smoked large amounts of it daily for 20 years). He has stopped both and just detoxed off methadone too. He had two suspected heart attacks towards the end of his using, which he treated by chewing aspirin and going to A&E.

He has now been clean for a few months and has had two episodes where he was probably having a heart attack. The last one he actually thought would finish him off.

Does the heart ever heal or stabilise after you stop using, or is it always going to be like this? He is in his early 30s but was a heavy user and has probably scarred his heart tissue. Will any of this heal, or is he permanently damaged?

Depends on the extent of the damage. Have you considered that he may be using again? Whether he is or is not, if he's had two minor heart attacks already then the damage is there. He needs a doctor, not aspirin...if he's unwilling to go then there may be information in that...

I am 50 yrs old, I smoked crack for 15yrs (started at 32) I started weed at 12. I ride a bike everywhere, quickly. The heart is an amazing muscle (and I thought this thread was going to be about love). All the heart needs is work and good food. So get your BF off his butt and go for a walk, it'll do you both good.

Be Well,
Larry
