I would like to know how other health issues like hypertension, and diabetes at the age of 45 and on methadone for 15 years. I want to go into a detox instead of doing it at home because i know 1 of the main symptoms of detox is high blood pressure and it has me scared to death but if i wait til i'm older it will be even riskier.

I was 45 when I came to recovery. Scary as hell !! ....

That was over 25 yrs ago so it worked for me and it will work for you.

AA & NA are lifesavers. Those folks will help you recover. It's never too late.

You are not the first alcoholic/drug user with "other problems" to get clean/sober... :o)

All the best.

Hi Mike,

I have been on methadone for many years and I have high blood pressure as well as low thyroid. I would suggest you make sure your doctor knows about your detox plans. As long as you continue taking your meds you should be OK. Are you also detoxing with help from your clinic doctor and counselor? Why are you wanting to detox off methadone if it is working for you and after being on it for so many years?

Good luck!
