Dbeth,
I don't have much experience with methadone but I would take it when I couldn't find anything else before I started suboxone. From what I've read and heard going from methadone to suboxone is a little rougher than going from other opiates to subs but after a few weeks you should level out on the subs. I think it's great that you're reaching out for help and want to get better for your child. I was on subs for about 7 years and I took my last dose about 21 days ago. I did a Long, slow taper at my own pace and it has really seemed to work for me. I haven't had any withdraws and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again after a 10 year addiction. Hopefully someone else with experience with methadone will come along to give you some advice but I would say give yourself some time to level out on the subs, and once you're comfortable start a taper plan. Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

Hi there, from the 🇬🇧 (uk) here. Regarding the meth to subz. Well on Sunday past I had my last dose of methadone and now on Thursday so it's my 4th day on subz. Started on 8ml tab on Monday and by Wednesday due to my request got pit up to 16ml.feel sweaty but not withdrawn.

The clear head is the first thing you notice. Well after the sweats but hey hoe it's to be expected. My addiction worker, who's done me proudly and is very good at his job had me go from meth 30ml to Suboxone so in answer to your question YES it's SAFE

Hi, this post was a while ago, but wanted to check how you are getting on? I switched from only 5ml of methadone to 8mg subetex and was immediately thrown into withdrawal. It was the worst thing ever, especially as I am a single mum, but it only lasted a few days, 2 weeks to get energy back. Keep with the subs, I really wanted my warm blanket of methadone back but was too scared to switch back. I am now in withdrawal again from the subs, as I tapered down to 0.4mg and not had any for 48 hours - headache, pains, feel sick, but hopefully I'll stick it out....if not, I've plenty subs. Good luck, hope you are well.

I was on 50 mgs of methadone daily for two years. Every single day never missed a day and never sought out any other drugs it was a complete success but over time I started to feel trapped and noticed my lack of testosterone and sex drive and heard the same thing that methadone is much harder to get off of than anything else. I recently saw an addiction specialist and he walked me through the transition from Methadone to Suboxone. You have to stop taking the methadone and let it completely exit your brain receptors (meaning laying on the couch and withdrawals for a solid 3 days for sure)... He told me to wait until the diarrhea starts... Then and only then do you take the Suboxone. If you take the Suboxone too early it will force your receptors to kick methadone which is awful I've heard it described. I did exactly what he told me to do and I am on day 2 of Suboxone 8 milligrams. I definitely feel relief but my energy levels are not quite the same as when I was on the methadone. I trust that it's just a transition and I'm going to stick with it. This doctor is awesome and has a well explained tapering game plan. Slowly and painlessly. Hope you =)
