After That One Night

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get some knowledge and advice about a particular incident that has basically ruined lives. Really appreciate any advice.
My best friend went out one night and was offered cocaine. He was also drunk at the time but snorted a line or two. Then later that evening, quite a few hours later, he did a huge amount of the cocaine. He said it was alot because he didnt feel much from the first use so wanted to get more out of it. He was very drunk. He did not have any adverse effects from it that night and went home then straight to bed.In the next couple of days that followed, he began to feel very unwell like he had a flu. He felt weak and muscular fatigue/pain. He went to the Dr and had blood tests and urine tests which came back normal. As weeks progressed he deteriorated with extreme muscle pain and rigidity and his muscles seemed to turn to water. He lost strength and muscle mass. He developed tremors and severe insomnia along with other strange symptoms. After countless specialists from, Neurologists, Rheumatologist, Endocrinologist, Urologist, Cardiologist, ENT, MRI's, CT, every test you could think of, anti depressants, Psychiatrist, many hospital visits, nothing can be found. Drs would all say its anxiety and depression. Its been a year since that one night out and he has deteriorated so much that he really has now developed accelerated psychotic depression. He has been admitted to a mental health hospital for treatment due to the delusions and paranoia that also developed.
.
Can anyone please tell me if it is possible that something was in the cocaine that he took that night, that has caused a slow release type of chemical to deteriorate his brain to the point he is now?

Thanks for reading my post guys and really sorry for itbeing so long.
Tony

I think that the doctors would have a better idea about that than anyone here.

The only thing I can suggest is that more might have been going on than that one night of coke snorting. Most people who use drugs at any level (from one time party to heavy ongoing addiction) a do not admit the full extent of their drug use. You may want to make sure this friend knows that you will listen to anything he has to say without judgement.

I have read that in predispositioned people whose genetics are susceptible to certain illnesses, anything can trigger the deterioration of health. Even antibiotics can cause psycosis for no apparent reason. dr's dont see the correlation. Lyme disease....

example: Pot smoking (who knows what else it has been treated with) can cause psychotic effects in one person and none at all after a lifetime of smoking for another person.

The cocaine could have been cut with anything. It sounds like a poisoning because he did too much. his body was not able to bounce back and reverse the effects. It is like agent orange poisoning or chemical poisoning in war zones.

Genetics: take 100 people all exposed to the same thing. Some will have effects some will have none. some will become addicts, some will not. some can walk away from it easier than others.

Even the common cold: some get sick, some dont. some a runny nose, some bronchitis.

It's all in the genes and weaknesses in the immune system.

If the lungs are weak, the illness goes to the lungs.... if the mind is weak the illness goes to the mind.

It is like a paper clip that you flex too much. eventually it breaks.

This is why drugs are a russian roulette.

Read the book Dancing as fast as I can. It might be found in a library.

I have taken some basic medical classes. a person can be sick and feel unwell before signs of it show in the body tissues - pathology. In this case it makes sense to me that it is a neurological illness due to cocaine poisoning. which is why it does not show up it all of the tests.
And in reverse, if tests show abnormal, and then the person is being treated for something, and they are feeling better, it will take a while for the body tissues to show the improvement.

The medical tests show symptoms, not the cause.
Medical profession treats the symptoms.

When the physcians can not find something in the body to treat when the tests are all normal, then they dont have anything to treat. at this time they only see the mental symptoms, so that is what is being treated. unfortunately, the mental symptoms might be too great and get in the way of further treatment. If he finds any one to treat him, it will be a long difficult road, and not on the path of conventional medicine.

Treatment of your friends case. Very difficult. Must find Dr's who have experience in unraveling this complicated problem. I just saw a seminar about Functional Medicine - neurologist. Start researching in that area and in alternative medicine. Look for Dr's who treat people to reverse poisoning.

Ps: Fellow posters please dont slam me for talking like I know something about medicine. I read a lot. and have taken a lot of classes, seminars. thanks for listening!

Hope this helps!

PS - another thought - your friend was drunk at the time. his body was in a weakened state when he poisoned himself with cocaine.

Also - what Tony wrote. any combination of anything could have been going on.

maybe by the time he had medical tests done, the drugs were out of his body or they did not do drug tests. therefore did not have testing results to prove the cause of the issues.

Could it be alcohol induced psychotic disorder?
https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=...chotic+disorder

I know I had a "bad trip" in 1972 which almost overnight led to severe depression and paranoia.
I became very sick and constant suicidal thoughts plagued me.
I continued to drink (not as bad) and began Valium etc .. along with psyche wards and therapy.

That was a bad time in my life and things began to improve when I entered recovery in 1989.

I am truly blessed to be clean/sober today and (relatively) sane. My life is good.

Without commitment to AA/NA in 1989 I would not have seen 1990.
I would have shot myself.

All the best.
