Why Is Abstaining/staying Clean Not Enough
clear horizon

it is often said in NA for example that abstaining/staying clean from drugs even forever is not enough and is not considered recovery.....even though the addict is not using......he/she is not cured from addiction and it is as if the person is still an addict.....

without the program....there is no progress....

what are your thoughts?
can you please be clear on that matter and do you agree?

is only staying clean and sober not enough? is it not considered recovery without the program?

thanks

That my friend is a decision only you can make.

If you can "just" abstain, I wish you all the best. Personally I could not.

Most addicts need to change alot about themselves in order to regain control of their lives.

I needed to change everything. and it was worth it.

i would love to discuss this more, but you give little insight as to the reason you ask.

Be Well,
Larry

I love to give my e-mail. It's the title of a thread I started. I'll be looking for your message.

Be well,
Larry

PS I hope you laugh when you find it, for more than one reason.

I had too little ego to tell other people how to run their lives and too much ego to take people telling me how to run mine.

I liked my career and my home. I did not want to change them. So the program did not work for me.

I just wanted to be clean and never use again.

I will never be the teetotaler I was for the first thirty-six years of my life. But I did not want to throw everything away that I worked for and built in the time before becoming an addict.

So for me staying clean is enough.
