Got too big for my britches after a month or so of sobriety. Convinced myself I could drink. Textbook definition of insanity!

Went to a meeting last night. Getting a sponsor and going to work the steps. Figured I'd come back here, too. I need to talk to other alcoholics in recovery. Daily, I think.

Welcome back. I appreciate you reminding me that it's not any better out there, and that all I have is a daily reprieve contingent on my spiritual condition. Keep coming back.

The Big Book (pg85) says it so well:

"We are not cured of alcoholism.
What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition."

With regular meeting attendance you will find what is necessary to achieve that daily reprieve.

All the best.

Thanks, guys. I have been lacking in a spiritual life recently. Your words are very truthful and come at a time when I am choosing to reconnect with God.

I've done it my way for too long. I'm turning over the reigns.

I'm feeling pretty scared. Think the damage might already be done with my partner. I hope not but either way I'm doing this. Can't lose any more to alcohol.

Just checking in. Still not drinking and have been reading the blue book every day. My work schedule is kind of odd so it's been hard to make it to a meeting, but I plan on going Saturday and Sunday God willing and am praying that I find the right sponsor.

If work is interfering with meetings you have your priorities confused.

Just like when I was practising my work interfered with drinking.

All the best.

Hi "the time is now"

Big Book " Alcoholics Anonymous" Page 58, 2nd Paragraph, 2nd sentence. DO IT NOW! not when it is convenient.

I will attempt to follow your advice. I have a small child that I have to watch during the day before work. I still have to support my family and I don't have reliable transportation. These are not excuses. Just reality and now I know what I need to pray for.

Sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day but I also know that where there's a will there's a way.

hello the time is now

Get to all the face to face meetings that you can. Get a sponsor and listen to the old-timers.

Use the internet to make contact with AA. This board is great. Share your experience, strength and hope here. That will help you as well as other suffering alcoholics.

Try online meetings like www.stepchat.com. Ask for help and advice. You are the one that has to change you, and you seem to already believe and accept that. You have made the most important step in making contact with AA.

Keep coming back.

praying for you.

E.

hello thetimeisnow

Glad to see your are feeling positive about your program. Weekend starts tomorrow so hope you can make some meetings. Come back here and share your days experiences with us. We are a fellowship that helps each other by sharing our experience, strength and hope with each other. It helps the members of AA listening or reading AND also the member sharing. It is FREE and it WORKS.

God bless you.

I didn't drink last night. Just hung out with a buddy who doesn't drink. Worst thing I got into was some Taco Bell and Mountain Dew. Lol.

It was good, albeit a little tiring. Spent all of Saturday with my family. Mostly just playing with my son, running errands and getting things done around the house.

Sunday I went to a meeting in the early evening. I had been talking to my friend on the way there about CH.3 of the big book and how I really identify with the idea that alcoholics will try to "beat" the "game" of alcoholism. That we will attempt all sorts of things to drink like non-problem drinkers. And that it never gets better...only worse.

Well...we get there, and the first thing that's talked about is exactly what I was talking about in the car. Affirmed that I was right where I was supposed to be.

Looks like I'll be hitting more meetings with my buddy soon.
